Position Description:

I joined Hannaford as an Intern and later as a freelancer. I hopped on the project as development was finishing up and assisted development, served a few roles in production, and was a key assistant editor.

Development/Pre-Production:

Development was entering its final stages when I joined the process. My contributions to this phase included location scouting and connecting with potential actors, organizing talent schedules and creating digestible call sheets/shooting schedules. I also learned the different equipment that I could be operating during production

Production/Shooting:

We had to shoot in 3 locations in three different states in 7 days non-consecutive. Our shoot took place inside open and active Hannaford stores.

Our crew consisted of James Helms as Director/Producer, Christian Wilfong as Director of Photography, Sean Slaughter as Audio Engineer/Boom Operator, and Hannah Belanger as available as Production Assistant/Gaffer. My role at first was to assist Hannah with lights and power, and then step in for Hannah when she wasn’t available. I also assisted Christian with setting up sliders and tripods, lens changes, and operating a second camera when applicable.

Post-Production/Editing:

At the end of each shoot day, we consolidated all footage and audio files into a project file shared between James and I. After shooting wrapped, I started the edit under James’ direction as the lead editor.

The first task was to sync all the files of the 7 days of shooting via timecode and correct any errors and files that weren’t on timecode. After came a culling process where I removed the empty spaces and just kept all the takes and organized them in accordance with where they take place on the script. After selecting the best takes from each scene, I shared these files with James and other Hannaford stakeholders. My final piece of editing was creating a first and second pass on the final edit with music where James took it over to finish the video.
