Project Description:

This short film came as a product of my Advance Video Production class. The course put us into teams that would eventually become crew, and we wrote, prepped, casted, shot, and edited our shorts in a few short weeks.

The film followed Rose and Johnny as they tried to finish their project before the deadline. However, a muddy love story makes their criminal minds project a bit more real.

Development/Pre-Production:

We had first started with an idea, and then banded together to write a script and characters. I would then go into casting where we had 8 different auditions for 2 parts. While we did this, our team also worked on location scouting, and camera preparation.

After the project was casted, I would dive more into character prep. I developed the characters on paper and then hosted table reads with the actors to prepare for our shoot. I also had regular meetings with the team to go over tasks and deadlines.

Production/Shooting:

Production lasted over a few days in different locations. Our actors didn’t have any acting or theatre experience, so we allotted time for rehearsals on set so we could dial in their performances and make them comfortable in the roles. With my great understanding of film production over all, particularly in the technical sense, I also served as an informational resource for the crew regarding audio recording, gaffing and other lighting tools and principles, as well as cinematography; however, I made sure only to assist if there was a blatant error or I was asked for clarification.

This being a student film, we had to accommodate with the student schedule. Shooting into thanksgiving break, we unfortunately couldn’t get everything done before break. I had to go travel, but the project couldn’t wait until I returned due to academic deadlines, so the climax and resolution of the story was shot without the director.

Post-Production/Editing:

Because this was a student project film, we also had divided the workload in accordance to the assignment requirements. Our videographer went on to edit the project in Davinci Resolve, and later passed the project onto our audio engineer to mix the film and add music when needed. After that collaboration, the editor passed the film back to me to color and export through Davinci Resolve.

We went through a few rounds of edits before arriving to our final version. This film was screened for the class and later screened at the SNHU Student Film Festival.
