Position Description:
The project was to create 6 different multimedia presentations in 2 different languages, meaning 12 total videos were the final deliverable. The project was broken into two main sections, the video production piece, and the graphics and animation piece. Jade Kosa, Thomas Wilkins, and I were the 3 freelancers working on the project.
As the team lead on the project and primary point of contact for the client, my roles consisted of some of the following:
Creating contracts and invoices, and being the principal contact for the project
Establishing workflows & file structures for the team to function
Designing a camera package for production
Sketching and illustrating designs of 6 different financial presentations, avoiding type-heavy designs, and utilizing iconography
Assisted editing, corrected sound, and added music to final products
Development/Pre-Production:
As the project was getting started, we needed to work with the client to establish a vision for the project and determine what are the desired outcomes, deliverables, timelines, and budgets for the project. After reviewing it all, and determining whether it was within our scope and capacity, we took on the project.
Working with Jade Kosa and Thomas Wilkins for the first time, we first needed to identify where we all fit in on this process and how to proceed efficiently throughout the execution of the job. Jade was our main animator and assisted in recording sound on production and managed project finances, and Tom was spearheading editing as well as operating the Teleprompter and setting up the green screen. I was working on creative documents/ sketching out designs for client input, and several other administrative details with the team collectively.
Production/Shooting:
We found a studio space to set up our equipment and shoot over a 2-day period. We used an FX30, 2 sources of audio that were an on-camera shotgun, and a boom mic over the subject. Tom operated the teleprompter with Jade monitoring levels from the boom. At this point, our illustrations were mostly done and animation has been underway.
Post-Production/Editing:
Tom had begun working on the edits and working with Jade after completing them to time the animations on the edit. Jade would then export animations to be composited with our presentation videos which were then passed to me.
After receiving all relevant files, I would fix any errors, do any audio corrections on our presenter audio and isolate a source, and finally add music to the presentations. I added a watermark and sent them to the client for review, then later removed watermarks and delivered 12 final Multimedia presentations, 6 in English and 6 in Swahili.
